The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) has announced the notification for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2025. This prestigious exam is conducted to recruit engineers for various Group A and B services under the Indian Government. 1. IMPORTANT DATES :

The UPSC has released the official notification for the ESE 2025, including important dates that candidates need to mark on their calendars:

  • Release Date of Notification: 18th September 2024
  • Last Date for Submission of Application: 8th October 2024 (6:00 PM)
  • Preliminary Examination Date: 9th February 2025

2. Eligibility Criteria:

A. Nationality:

To apply for the UPSC ESE, the candidate must be:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee settled in India before 1962, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from specific countries with the intention of settling permanently in India.

B. Age Limit:

  • The candidate must be at least 21 years old and not older than 30 as of 1st January 2025. This means your birth date should be between 2nd January 1995 and 1st January 2004.
  • Age relaxations are applicable for various reserved categories like SC/ST, OBC, Ex-servicemen, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

C. Educational Qualification:

The candidate must hold an engineering degree in any of the following disciplines:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

Degrees from recognized institutions or passing specific membership examinations, such as those conducted by the Institution of Engineers (India), are also accepted.

3. How to Apply:

A. One-Time Registration (OTR):

  • First-time applicants must complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) on the official website upsconline.nic.in.
  • Candidates who have previously registered can proceed to apply directly for the ESE 2025.

B. Filling the Application Form:

  • After completing OTR, proceed to fill the online application for ESE 2025.
  • Make sure to provide accurate details and upload the necessary documents like your photograph, signature, and identification details.

C. Modification of Application:

  • OTR Profile Modification: Candidates can modify their OTR profile only once during their lifetime.
  • Application Modification Window: If any errors occur while filling the application, a modification window will be open from 9th October 2024 to 15th October 2024.

D. Application Fee:

  • The application fee is ₹200 for General and OBC candidates.
  • SC/ST, female candidates, and persons with benchmark disabilities are exempt from paying the fee.
  • Payment can be made online via debit/credit card or net banking.

4. Selection Process:

A. Preliminary Examination:

The Preliminary exam is the first stage and will be conducted on 9th February 2025. It consists of objective-type questions. Candidates should be aware that there is negative marking for incorrect answers.

B. Main Examination:

The Main exam is a conventional paper, following the Preliminary stage for shortlisted candidates. The date and exam pattern will be announced on the official UPSC website.

C. Personality Test/Interview:

Qualified candidates from the Main examination will proceed to the Personality Test round. The interview assesses the candidate’s technical knowledge, personality traits, and suitability for the services.

5. Vacancies and Reservations:

Approximately 232 vacancies are expected across the various engineering disciplines. Out of these, 12 seats are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). Additionally, there will be reservations for SC, ST, OBC, and EWS candidates in line with the Government of India’s policies.

6. Important Instructions for Candidates:

  • Ensure your photograph is not older than 10 days at the time of application. The name and the date should be clearly visible in the photograph.
  • Do not carry banned items such as mobile phones or electronic devices to the examination center, even if switched off.
  • Use only a black ballpoint pen for the OMR sheets in the preliminary examination.
  • Candidates must bring their Photo ID for all stages of the exam.
