Overview

The Technical Graduate Course (TGC-143) is a Permanent Commission entry for unmarried male engineering graduates. Selected candidates undergo approximately 12 months of pre-commission training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun and are commissioned as Lieutenants.

Who can apply? — Eligibility

Nationality

Candidates must be: Indian citizens, subjects of Nepal, or persons of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India. Certificate of eligibility required where specified (not required for Nepali Gorkha subjects).

Age Limit

Age must be 20–27 years as on 01 July 2026. (Born between 01 Jul 1999 and 30 Jun 2006, inclusive.)

Marital Status

Only unmarried male candidates. Marriage during training will result in discharge.

Educational Qualification

Passed or appearing in final year of BE/B.Tech in a notified engineering stream. Final-year students must submit proof of passing by 01 July 2026 and the degree certificate within 12 weeks of training start. Candidates whose final exams fall after 01 Jul 2026 are not eligible.

Important: Any mismatch between the engineering stream name on degree/marksheet and the online application will lead to cancellation of candidature.

Selection Process — Step by step

     

      1. Shortlisting: Based on cumulative percentage up to the final semester/year. Cut-off percentage applied stream-wise.

      1. Selection Centre Allotment: Shortlisted candidates will be informed by email. Candidate may select SSB dates (first come, first served initially).

      1. SSB Interview: Conducted at Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru or Jalandhar. Two-stage procedure: Stage-1 (screening) and Stage-2 (five days).

      1. Medical Examination: For SSB recommended candidates.

      1. Merit List & Joining Letter: Based on SSB performance and vacancies; final induction subject to medical fitness.

    If SSB marks tie, older candidate ranks higher; if age also ties, higher degree percentage decides merit.

        • Engineering Degree / Provisional Degree & all semester mark sheets

        • Certificate from Principal/Registrar confirming final-year status (if applicable)

      Training, Terms & Conditions

      Selected candidates will join IMA, Dehradun for pre-commission training. Candidates are not permitted to marry during training. The Government bears the training cost; however, candidates who leave training for personal reasons are liable to refund training costs as per MoD rules.

      Stipend & Pay

      Stipend during training: ₹56,100 per month. On successful commissioning, pay will be fixed in the first cell of Level 10 (Lieutenant) and applicable allowances will be paid.

        How to Apply — Step-by-step

            1. Click “Officer Entry Apply/Login” → “Registration” (register if not already registered).

            1. Click “Apply Online” → Choose “Technical Graduate Course (TGC-143)” → Fill application carefully.

            1. Convert CGPA to percentage using the university’s formula; upload/provide required certificates.

            1. Submit the form and take two printouts of the application (with Roll Number) within 30 minutes of final closure on the last day.

          Remember: Aadhaar number & Matriculation certificate are mandatory for registration. Multiple applications from the same candidate will lead to cancellation.

          SSB Centres & Travel Entitlement

          SSB Centres: Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka), Jalandhar (Punjab).

          Travel Entitlement: First-time SSB applicants for this type of commission are eligible for AC-III Tier train fare or bus fare (including reservation cum sleeper charges) to and from the selection centre within India.
