About UP State Services (UPPCS)

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducts the Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services Examination (popularly called UPPCS). It recruits officers for administrative, police, revenue, and development departments of the Government of Uttar Pradesh — including Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy. SP), Block Development Officer (BDO), and more.

UPPCS Exam Stages & Pattern

The UPPCS selection process has three stages: Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, and Interview/Personality Test.

Preparation Strategy

  • Cover the UPPCS syllabus thoroughly (it differs slightly from UPSC).
  • Build foundations with NCERTs (Class 6–12).
  • Standard books: M. Laxmikant (Polity), Spectrum (History), Majid Husain (Geography), Ramesh Singh (Economy).
  • Follow UP-specific current affairs and state schemes.

Is CSAT qualifying in UPPCS?

Yes. You must score at least 33% in CSAT; GS Paper I decides Prelims merit. What is the age limit for UPPCS?

21–40 years as on 1 July of the exam year; relaxations for UP domiciled SC/ST/OBC and other categories as per rules. Can a final-year student apply?

Yes, if the degree is obtained before the last date specified for the Main Examination form.
